1st Day: Ouarzazate – Merzouga:
After breakfast in your riad in Ouarzazate, you will be picked up by your driver/guide in a 4×4 air-conditioned car. Our first scheduled stop will be in Skoura Oasis, famous for its green palm trees fields and its beautifully restored Kasbah Amredhil.
Our journey continues through the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Valley of the Roses to Kel’aa M’gouna, where you can visit the cosmetic co-operatives to learn about the locally made perfumes and beauty products.
After lunch, there will be opportunities to explore the Dades Valley’s garden fields and to take a walk alongside the river and through the fascinating Toudgha Gorges. Driving further east, we pass by many Berber villages; Tinghir, Erfoud, and Rissani where you get to know about the lifestyle of the local inhabitants in the south of Morocco.
Having arrived in Erg Chebbi dunes, an hour to an hour and a half camel ride leads to the top of the dunes (250 m) where the sunset is spectacular. At night, dinner is served, followed by Berber music and drumming and an overnight sleep in your private nomad tent near the big dunes.
2nd Day: Merzouga – Ouarzazate:
Early in the morning, a second camel ride leads to the summit of the dunes of Erg Chebbi, where you can witness the sunrise when the colors of the dunes and the play of the shadow is a fascinating spectacle.
After breakfast, we drive from Merzouga desert to Ouarzazate passing by many Berber villages; Rissani, Alnif, Tazzarine (featured in the movie of ‘Babel’), and N’Qob which will be the venue for lunch.
In the afternoon, we drive through the Dra’a Valley’s palm trees groves and ancient kasbahs and through the ancient road of Caravans. Back on the paved road, we stop at Agdez for a coffee or tea break. Later on, we cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the pass of Tizi-n-Tinfifite to arrive at Ouarzazate.
