Begin your Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou day trip in the morning. you will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech in a 4×4 air-conditioned car.
Enjoy a wonderful drive across the chain of the High Atlas Mountains and the fascinating pass of Tizi n’Tichka, one of the most breath-taking passes in Morocco.
All along the route, you will witness dozens of small Berber villages perched on the side of the mountains, sometimes barely distinguishable from the mountain’s entourage itself.
Because the incredibly tall and admirably towered Atlas Mountains are far from civilization, it is very unlikely for you to witness many people in this particular area, apart from friendly local Berber families, who still inhabit this harsh but beautiful environment, tending their goats as they search for grass and herbs.
Our first scheduled visit will be to Kasbah Telouet, which has served as a palatial residence to the powerful El Glaoui Tribe and a headquarter for the last Pasha of Marrakesh.
Afterward, a side road crossing the beautiful and fertile Ounila Valley leads to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Hollywood blockbuster film location favorite.
After lunch in one of the many restaurants alongside the Salt River and overlooking the Kasbah, a visit with a local guide is scheduled to this historical site.
The local guide will explain the rich history of the Kasbah, will point out different features of the adobe housing in the south of Morocco back in time.
The guide will, also, provide great insight into different locations of the Kasbah that were used as a backdrop for Hollywood cinematic work, including ‘The Gladiator’, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, and some scenes of the famous Tv series ‘Games of Thrones’.
In the afternoon, we drive back to Marrakesh alongside the high Atlas Mountains. Along the road, there will be plenty of stops at panoramic viewpoints to take photos, to admire the setting, and for breaks. We arrive back at Marrakech in the afternoon which will mark the end of your Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou day trip.
